Welcome to Ms. Niewinski's Room
The first graders are learning how to read and write. Our series in reading emphasizes a strong phonics base with lots of reading. We write daily in our journals, beginning with simple sentences and building to simple paragraphs. We have a word wall in our classroom that is filled with words to help us with our reading, writing, and spelling.
In math we work on addition, subtraction, place value, money, time, graphing, and much more. We use manipulatives to help us work on the problems.
The children also are introduced to their world and communities in social studies and science. One unit in science and social studies culminates in an animal report and a trip to zoo.
