As our students work to become stronger students and readers, our second grade reading curriculum provides ample opportunities to exercise phonetic awareness, build a larger vocabulary, comprehend different types of stories, reinforce good spelling habits, and learn various study skills to enable them to become life long learners. In addition to knowing basic addition and subtraction facts in math, we cover other topics such as graphing, patterns, time, money, geometric shapes, story problems, and an introduction to multiplication. Our main objective for Language Arts is to have the children be able to write a good 5 - sentence paragraph with a main idea sentence and detail sentences. We also cover different parts of grammar, speech, and punctuation. Some of the main concepts covered in science are the four habitats, basic science skills, dinosaurs and fossils, recycling, and our general health. The units covered in Social Studies are people all around, Earth, a working world, discovering our past, holidays, and Christmas Around the World.
