SOCIAL STUDIES

SIXTH, SEVENTH, AND EIGHTH GRADE


Using many different resources, students will improve map skills to include world, national, state, and local geography, examine history and current events through different viewpoints to understand actions and reactions leading to today's reality, investigate culture to gain awareness of the people and the world around them, and better understand their role in society to function as good citizens.

Sixth Grade: World History

Students will be able to locate given areas across the globe and name contributions made by different cultures and ancient civilizations affecting the world we live in today.

Seventh: U. S. History

Students will explain the exploration and settlement of America, discuss colonial growth, and examine the road to independence through different viewpoints.

Eighth: U. S. History with concentration on the United States Constitution and Illinois State Constitution

Students will be able to list the goals of the Constitutions, define amendments, and describe how the underlying principles of the Constitutions are at work in the lives of Americans today.
