Professional Experience

Welcome to our website!

Founded in 1840, Pennoyer School has been providing an outstanding education for students for 175 years! A lot has changed in the last 175 years. Pennoyer itself has gone from a one room, wooden structure in the middle of farm fields, to a building that houses over 400 students surrounded by major roadways, homes, and businesses.

What hasn't changed is the Pennoyer commitment to providing an outstanding education in a caring and supportive environment. Our students interact with excellent teachers and staff, utilize the latest instructional technology, and have ample opportunities to learn and grow. We are very proud of our school and look forward to another 175 years of excellence.

Thank you for visiting our website.

We would like to welcome the following teachers to the Pennoyer School family:

Ms. Kiera Strecker - 2nd Grade

I am so excited to be a member of the Pennoyer community this school year! I received my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Roosevelt University and worked at Pennoyer as a paraprofessional for two years. I then taught Kindergarten for two years at a private school where I was also the Director of Curriculum. Teaching is my passion and I hope to pass along my love for learning to all of my students.

Ms. Emily Meade - Kindergarten

Hello Pennoyer Community! My name is Emily Meade and I am the new Kindergarten Teacher here at Pennoyer School. This will be my first year teaching as I am a recent graduate from the University of Northern Iowa with a Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Literacy. I feel very fortunate to be teaching at Pennoyer for my first year. I cannot wait to meet all of the students and get to know the community here. My hope for the school year is for the student's to find a new interest that they enjoy learning about. I look forward to beginning the 2016-2017 school year here at Pennoyer!

Mrs. Barbara O'Sullivan - Librarian

Hello everyone! My name is Mrs. Barbara O'Sullivan and I will be working part time in the Learning Resource Center. I am a recent graduate of Dominican University with a Master's Degree in Library and Information Science, and eager to start this new adventure at Pennoyer Elementary School. I am currently working on making the Learning Resource Center an inviting place for the entire Pennoyer community to use throughout the school year. In addition to working in the LRC, I also volunteer at the Art Institute of Chicago as a docent. As a docent, I teach students from school groups on how to carefully look at art and provide information about the art and/or the artist who created the work. I live in Chicago. I am married to my husband Sean, and I have two grown children: Alex who is a librarian and Catie who is a middle school science teacher. When I am not teaching, I enjoy watching the Chicago Bears and the Chicago Blackhawks (and attending a game or two), walking my two dogs Boris and Natasha, listening to music and (of course) reading!

Ms. Meagan Darland - 1st Grade

I am so excited to join the Pennoyer community this year! My name is Meagan Darland and I will be teaching first grade this year. Before coming to Pennoyer, I taught full day kindergarten at a private school for two years. I received my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from National Louis University. Recently, I completed my special education endorsement from University of St. Francis. I can't wait to put all of the exciting things I have learned to use in our classroom and school! I absolutely love first grade and am so lucky to get to spend every day there! I am also excited for all of you to share your experiences and learn from one another as we grow as learners!
