Science Curriculum

2nd Grade

Course Purpose:

Second Grade students will develop and use models to explain similarities and differences among processes and objects.

Outcomes and Components:

SC.2.2 Students will use the characteristics of the various types of land and bodies of water to explain the fast and slow changes that have shaped Earth. Students will compare design solutions to prevent or slow such changes.

SC.2.2.1 Describe the shapes and kinds of land found on Earth, including mountains, plateaus, canyons, plains, islands, and peninsulas, and develop a model to represent them. 2-ESS2-2
SC.2.2.2 Describe the shapes and kinds of bodies of water found on Earth, including rivers, oceans, ponds, and lakes, and develop a model to represent them. 2-ESS2-2
SC.2.2.3 Characterize bodies of water found on earth as solid or liquid form. 2-ESS2-3
SC.2.2.4 Describe the processes that change the shape of the land and determine if they are fast or slow changes. 2-ESS2-1
SC.2.2.5 Evaluate the effectiveness of multiple solutions designed to slow or prevent wind or water from changing the shape of the land.
