Math Curriculum

6th Grade

Course Purpose:

Students will calculate and apply operations with positive rational numbers. Students will relate multiplication and division to ratios and proportional relationships. Students will construct and evaluate expressions and generate and solve equations.

Outcomes and Components:

M.6.11

Students will represent different locations on the coordinate plane in all four quadrants and apply this to real world contexts.

Standard(s)

    M.6.11.1

Identify parts of the coordinate plane to include the x and y axis, the origin, and the four quadrants.

M.6.11.2   Identify signs of numbers in ordered pairs as indicating locations in quadrants in the coordinate plane and graph points in all four quadrants with integers and rational numbers.

6.NS.C.6.b

6.NS.C.6.c

M.6.11.3   Use absolute value to find horizontal and vertical distances between coordinates in all four quadrants and apply to real world contexts. 6.NS.C.8
M.6.11.4   Identify signs of coordinates to recognize the points are reflected across the x and y axes and reflect points across the x and y axis. 6.NS.C.6.b
M.6.11.5   Graph and connect the coordinates for vertices to create triangles and quadrilaterals in the coordinate plane; use coordinates to find the length of a horizontal or vertical side. Apply to finding the perimeter and area of squares and rectangles on the coordinate plane. 6.G.A.3
