Math Curriculum

6th Grade

Course Purpose:

Students will calculate and apply operations with positive rational numbers. Students will relate multiplication and division to ratios and proportional relationships. Students will construct and evaluate expressions and generate and solve equations.

Outcomes and Components:

M.6.8

Standard(s)

M.6.8.1   Calculate the area of two-dimensional figures by decomposing/composing into triangles and other shapes, and apply these techniques to real world contexts. 6.G.A.1
M.6.8.2   Calculate area using the formulas for triangles (right and other), and quadrilaterals (parallelogram, rectangle, rhombus, square, and trapezoid).
M.6.8.3   Use nets of rectangles and triangles to represent and find the surface area of three-dimensional figures, and apply to real world contexts. 6.G.A.4
M.6.8.4   Calculate the volume of right rectangular prisms using the formula V=lwh and V=Bh with fractional edge lengths, apply to real world contexts, and illustrate that the volume would be the same by packing it with unit cubes of the appropriate unit fraction edge length and using a volume formula. 6.G.A.2
